Based on James Clavell’s novel, FX’s Shōgun is set in Japan in the year 1600 at the dawn of a century-defining civil war. Lord Yoshii Toranaga is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him, when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village.

Making Mariko some sort of great warrior is destroying the entire point of her character …. she's the strongest in the story without being some sort of badass.

I'm looking forward to this. I'm a fan of the book and the mini-series starring Richard Chamberlain. The actor playing Blackthorne isn't giving me the best vibes (lol), but I'll definitely reserve judgement until it comes out. Hiroyuki Sanada is EVERYTHING, and I think he'll play Toronaga to perfection.
Hiroyuki Sanada is a powerful hook. And FX makes quite a few shows I enjoy. Definitely interested.

I watched the original TV show. It showcased the Japanese culture. This iteration will showcase the insipid over the top crap that sells these days.
