  1. In the original TV series, it was hard to like Yabu-san. Here, Yabushige-san is one of the most lovable characters :o. But the original Toranaga-sama had the incomparable Toshiro Mifune.

  2. In 2005 I was drowning 25m from the shore of Guincho beach in Portugal being battered by set after set, bobbing up to gasp for air wide eyed seeing people on da beach. Only luck prevailed. Sitting in my chair on the flight that evening to Frankfurt little did anyone know nor could I still believe I was there, breathing.

  3. I find this scene the most unbelievable, a warlord that has no regard for prisoner's life and look down upon commoners, risk his life to safe some random Gaijin he doesn't know?

  4. A damn white man among the Indians. A damn white man among the samurai. A damn white man among Africans. A damn white man among the Asians. What do you want to do by putting a white hero in your movies wherever you bring oppression?

  5. Naw , admiration?? He was about to shank himself rather fight for survival as a samurai. He was going to be beat by the sea and the knowledge that he himself was going on a test, like he stated himself. Showed his true colors in face of this little scenario. Probably slip on mud in his own home and decide to end it there 😂

  6. Great scene, but the book is better. There is a greater distinction between the two cultures and their perception of death as well as Yabu’s inner monologue to be above Blackthorne at all times. Beautiful show though

  7. I love the moment he unsheathe his sword and Blackthorn look at him … thinking he will make this "lord" taste fear of death, only to find out he doesn't fear at all but go meet it face to face on his own terms. Last look from Yabushige is like "You wanted this, didn't you?"

  8. in the book, yabu was preparing to accept his fate until one of the samurais that came a long jumped to his death so that yabu would get out of his trance like state and be saved……
