Koganecho in Yokohama, a postwar drug district… looks like Philadelphia today.
Kurosawa really wanted to shoot in the real Koganecho, but it was too dangerous, so he gave up. This drug town was a set for filming, and the addicts were actors. Koganecho, by the way, is now a safe town.
Kurosawa was a great director! He really had a good eye and always captures great shots!

I love watching these original trailers. It's really great how they use footage that didn't actually end up in the film. The scene at 2:31 they show the whole thing through the close-up, in the film they only used it for a moment and everything else was done in the wide. It's really a special thing to be able to see extra cuts and scenes that didn't fully make it in. High and Low is my favourite film of all time so I am really happy to have seen this. Thanks for uploading.
